Calling Applications For National Library Research Award - 2025

The National Library & Documentation Services Board (NLDSB), Sri Lanka invites applications for the National Library Research Awards – 2025 from professionals and students who have made notable research contributions through their Master’s, MPhil, or PhD studies, or other innovative projects in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS).

Background

The National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) is committed to fostering research and innovation in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). Recognizing the importance of scholarly contributions to the advancement of the profession in Sri Lanka, the NLDSB introduces the annual National Library Research Award to recognize and honour outstanding research and innovative contributions by LIS professionals and students in Sri Lanka.

Objective
The primary objective of the National Library Research Award is to encourage and recognize significant research work and contributions that advance the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Sri Lanka. The award will be open to professionals and students who have made notable research contributions through their Master’s, MPhil, or PhD studies, or through other innovative projects, within the past three years.
Eligibility Criteria
  • The award is open to LIS professionals and students of Sri Lanka.
  • Research should focus on the Sri Lankan LIS field and may be conducted by LIS professionals or by professionals from related fields (e.g. IT, Archival & Document Management, Education, Media) in areas connected to LIS.
  • The research should demonstrate originality, innovation, and practical applicability to the development of LIS in Sri Lanka, with a positive impact on improving or modernizing the LIS field or improving services to users.
  • Eligible work includes Master's, MPhil, or PhD theses, or any other significant contribution to LIS. Submissions should be presented electronically with required supportive documents.
  • Research must have been completed within the last three years, from the closing date of application.
  • Research fully or substantially funded by another organization is not eligible.
Award Details
  • The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- along with a certificate.
  • The award will be presented at the National Library Anniversary Event in the following year.
Important Dates and Deadlines
  • Applications open: 1st October 2026
  • Closing Date for Submissions: 30th November 2026
