Theme: "Library, Information & Documentation in a Context of Transformation"
National Library & Documentation Services Board organized National Library Research Symposium 2019 (NatlibSYMPO 2019) in collaboration with the Asia & Oceania section of IFLA on 31st October 2019 at the National Library premises, Colombo. NatlibSYMPO 2019 is the third in the series, which is organized annually by the Library Research Division to provide an excellent opportunity for researchers to discuss issues and challenges in the fields of Library & Information Science and the Social Sciences. The theme of this year’s conference, “Library, Information and Documentation in a Context of Transformation,” was chosen to address many aspects of the growing importance of libraries in the country. Mr. R. Rathnayake, Additional Secretary (School Affairs) attached to the Ministry of Education, was the Chief Guest of the symposium, while Prof. Rohan Samarajiva, Chairman, Information & Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) delivered the keynote address. The symposium cherished with presentations of about twenty-one selected research papers covering a wide range of subjects relevant to the theme of the symposium. They were presented in four technical sessions chaired by experts in research arena.
Theme: "Promoting Research Culture through Knowledge Sharing"
The National Library Research Symposium 2018 (NatlibSYMPO 2018) was held on 23rd October 2018 under the patronage of Mr. Sunil Hettiarachchi, Secretary of the Ministry of Education. NatlibSYMPO 2018 is the second of its series which is annually organized by Library Research
Division to provide an excellent opportunity for researchers to discuss the issues and challenges relating to the fields of Library & Information Science and Social Sciences. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. Mr.Deepal Chandraratna, Chairman, Mr. W. Sunil, Director General, and the senior staff of the National Library and Documentation Services Board, along with researchers and paper presenters, participated in the inauguration ceremony. The conference theme of this year was “Promoting Research Culture through Knowledge Sharing.” The symposium provided an opportunity for professionals in the library and information field, as well as related disciplines, to present research papers and share knowledge. A total of 20 research papers were presented by 24 researchers on various topics. Approximately 91 participants from various institutions and the research community attended the symposium.
Theme: "Knowledge Development through Innovation of Information Services"
The National Library Research Symposium 2017, organized by the National Library and Documentation Services Board, was held on 20th September 2017 at the National Library Auditorium. The objective of organizing this symposium was to provide an opportunity for library
professionals to present their research papers and to encourage library research. The Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony was Mr. Sunil Hettiarachchi, Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. K. A. P. Siddhisena. The theme of that year’s conference was “Knowledge Development through Innovation of Information Services.” Eleven library professionals presented papers at the symposium.
National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) organized an International Conference on Strengthening Co-operation among National Libraries in South Asia on 6th August 2015 to mark the 25th anniversary of the National Library of Sri Lanka. Delegates from India, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand and a large number of local library professionals participated the conference. The keynote speeches were delivered by Ms. Ngian Lek Choh, Member, IFLA Governing Board and Consultant, National Library Board, Singapore and Mr. Upali Amarasiri, former Director General of the National Library and Documentation Services Board. The conference consisted of three sessions and sessions were chaired by Mr. Upali Amarasiri, Prof. Russel Bowden and Mr. Prasanna Ranaweera respectively.
