NATIONAL LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION SERVICES BOARD
Memory of the World (MOW) Programme is implemented by UNESCO with the objective of preserving the documentary heritage of the world. Memory of the World Programme is an international initiative launched to safeguard the documentary heritage and this programme was started in 1992. This programme is administrated by an international advisory committee appointed by UNESCO.
Sri Lanka also combines to this programme and National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) serves as the national focal point of this programme in Sri Lanka. The objectives of the Sri Lanka Memory of the World programme are to add new entries to the Memory of the World Register, to maintain national register of documentary heritage in Sri Lanka, digitization of public records, to publicize the MOW programme and to maintain co-operation with other institutions for the preservation of documentary heritage. National Library of Sri Lanka also maintains an advisory committee for the MOW programme. This committee consists of scholars in the relevant field. NLDSB sent a number of nominations recommended by the MOW advisory committee to the UNESCO MOW register.
