The National Library strives to serve researchers, intellectuals, academics as well as the general public in every corner of Sri Lanka through inter-library loan service. Facilities are available to obtain required library material from the National Library through inter-library loan, if it is not available in a particular library. Loan of library materials are only for the requesting libraries and not for individuals. Inter-library loans are being carried out between public, university and special libraries at present. The libraries request for inter-library loans have to sign the inter-library loan agreement before obtaining the publications on loan. Therefore, individuals can have access to the library materials through the libraries, to use within the library. The National Library will lend materials such as monographs, periodicals, government publications etc. on inter-library loan with the exception of rare and unique materials.
