ABOUT US

In research, it is important that ethical approval be given before the commencement of a research project. In fact, research communities around the world have designed codes of ethics to promote high quality research that builds on sound ethical principles. Considering this necessity, the National Library of Sri Lanka has decided to establish an Ethics Review Committee for the Library & Information Science (LIS) field.

LIS-ERC is to help the researchers in promoting and adhering to ethical principles in research and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants of research as well as the researcher/s.

Once completion of the review process, the researcher can obtain an ethics clearance certificate to proceed with the research project.

WHO CAN APPLY

• Proposals for higher education candidates of Masters, MPhil, PhD (Local / Foreign)
• Proposals of research which involve in LIS
• Those who wish to carry out a research related to National Library of Sri Lanka

Standard Operational Procedures – LIS-ERC

The Standard Operational Procedures of the LIS-ERC are as follows:

• Research proposals relevant to Library and Information Science (LIS) will be submitted to the LIS-ERC through the secretary of the committee.
• The research proposal should be received by the LIS-ERC by 15th day of the month beginning from July, 2023. (Prior to14 days of the ERC meeting). LIS-ERC meetings are conducted once a month during the 4th week of the month.
• The LIS-ERC will specify the format in which proposals should be submitted. ( Application form)
• The LIS-ERC will consider the application in accordance with the procedures set out in this document and other relevant documents.
• The committee will inform the decision of the ERC by 2nd week of the following month.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Online process

Principal Investigator/Applicant should credit the appropriate processing fee as stipulated in the application form to the National Library of Sri Lanka. (A/C No.167-1-001-6-3170315) at People’s Bank, Townhall.

Application processing fee:

• Local Researchers - Rs.2000/=
• Foreign Researchers - $ 20

Duly completed application form could be emailed to the Secretary of the Ethical Review Committee, National Library of Sri Lanka with the scan copy of the paid slip (Bank receipt) via email.

Handing over process

Duly completed application form could be submitted to the Secretary of the Ethical Review Committee, National Library of Sri Lanka with the receipt obtained from the shroff by paying Rs.2000/- or $ 20.

* Note: All application for LIS-ERC must be submitted before the closing date for applications. It shall usually be 14 days prior to the monthly LIS-ERC meeting.
